Ya confession, the denial is unreal and everyone seems to get effected with the dillusions of this person. Seeing what I have of Michael moore, I beleive you might indeed be correct. My fathers denial has been relentless and unhelpful to advancing our situation. I'm glad to see someone else is familiar with this. Maybe that gives you an idea of the monsters I deal with, in myself.

cult personality type?
by Mysterious inanother thing that has been intriguing me lately is the idea that cults can help sway people towards a certain personality type more towards a judging personality for example, or becoming more feeling rather than thinking.
i know my meyers-briggs type changed from istj when i was a jw to intj after i left.
i was curious if anyone else was aware of a similar shift in their actual measurable personality traits..maybe putting on the new personality is literal?

This is very encouraging. If you can find where you fit on the spectrum the insight will empower you. I wonder if reading is sufficient or a proffesional would be better. We tend to analyse ourselves differently perhaps from denial in certain areas. I have always found therapy very intense and have a hard time trusting. Sometimes when I go, I even tell myself, there's nothing wrong with me and I'm wasting my time. I'm not getting any younger either. Do all therapists use this format. If so that sounds like good news.

I get it. I think I need to see a shrink or read more on this. There's the effects of the cult brainwashing, the effects of shunning and abandonment and I have just been given an interesting article from my brother on narcisstic personality disorder. It sure looks like my dad suffers from that and my brothers and I have been effected by both. It was first documented in 1980 and describes my father almost perfectly. For years we were getting the ego part of things confused thinking he was a sociopath but this new def. is far more comprehensive. I don't know much yet, so I just keep reading these threads. Thanks!

I don't know if I agree. I'm not sure who I ever was. as I was born into this, and what I would have been in the abscence of the brainwashing and abuse. Becca can you tell me by reading some of my posts which one you think I am. I didn't even know of these types. Another question... If you are evil at your core are you saying that this will never change no matter what you do?

OT- Cancer/This Needs Attention
by metatron innew scientist published an article claiming that an inexpensive off patent drug might be a cure for cancer.
the trouble .
is that , as with countless other potential treatments, there is no possibility of future profit - which translates into.

How could they possibly get millions for funding, and all the quackery if they had a cure? They got to keep that money machine rolling.

POLL: Would You Ever Consider Going Back To The Organization?
by minimus inyes, no or maybe....and why?

My investment outside, and the price I paid, was way too high, to submit myself to that. Besides, humiliation does my self esteem no good. I promised myself a long time ago that you can put me in my pine box before that happens. Also, a lot of the people I know, are now out as well, and the whole scene has changed. They have no respect and I'm too old for there silly games. I must now live my life to please me. In the end I might get destroyed but I felt that way on the inside anyways. It's a no win scenario reentering.

Why is Europe more liberal then the United States?
by free2beme ini have wondered this for awhile and can not figure out why.
any ideas?
apparently being liberal does not lead to an economic power house, but it does lead to a lot of hatred of the united states in these countries.

Is it true that in Northern Holland folks there are big and somewhat shy and conservative? My father comes from Siberkarspel. I think it's in Ackerlands near Freisland. Is this a Genetic predipositiopn? It seems rather strange considering how liberal Holland is in so many ways. Everyone is his family are freakin huge too.

How about a lamb with a horn in its head. Or how about $$$ on each point of an inverted crucifix. Maybe even J.F. Rutherford sitting on God's throne wearing robes with rays of light emanating from his presence. How about a big brain with a shackle attached to it.

Stories with such emotional content drive home a life or death message of urgency to the reader. In this case the bible student was captive and had nothing to lose by immersing himself in a beleif which created instant freindships, decreased gaurd hostility, and gave him two hopes. One hope was having the death sentence commuted by the governor, and if that failed the hope of ressurection. I knew an xjw who went to prison for murder and started to study with the witnesses again. He was released within 4 years and did a complete turn around. Of course this impressed everyone and upon his release he was instaneously accepted by the congregation as an outstanding example of how love for Jehovah can change a person. He married and had kids and left it all behind within 2 years. Witnesses always use outstanding examples of change to justify there nonsense. Wouldn't they love it if they could have everyone on death row behind bars begging to study with them. Nekata himself admited, he would never have studied if he were released. It also amazes me how some people for simple minor infractions within the organization have waited 15 years with a repentant attitude and have been completely ignored. This story suits there purpose because Nekata can't make them look bad if he does something wrong because he is dead. Despite the harsh man Nekata was, I can feel sorry for him in a way. Whatever bad choices he made or whatever shaped him, his ending was an attempt to reach out for redemption only to be lied to by the witnesses. The other point of this story that might be missed, is the amazing impact brainwashing can have on ones behaviour. I'm sure the elders got a lot of brownie points and attention for there captive studies. At least he died bravely, and had less a spirit of hypocrasy than the elders because he beleived it more than they did. Nekata even prayed for them. His family too, became casualties of the winesses to in their greif and validated the sons life by joining in his beleifs. This is just the kind of attention grabbing story that is needed in Japan to improve there very poor image. The witnessing work isn't doing too well there.
